KUALA LUMPUR: Actress Maya Karin (pic) was awarded a commendation in the best actress category at the Ramsgate International Film and TV Festival in Britain, reported Sinar Harian.
The recognition was for her acting in the Olympic Dream film, which was also listed as the Official Selection at the festival held in June.
Commenting on the award, Maya expressed her gratitude as the recognition was totally unexpected.
“I feel very grateful and thankful to the jury of the Ramsgate International Film & TV Festival for this recognition as I did not expect this at all.
“Maybe my acting in the film has had an impact on the jury and the audience, ” said Maya, who was named the Best Female Actress at the Malaysian Film Festival twice.
Mural painter Abdul Hadi Ramli, 27, said it would not only serve as a platform to display works of art, but murals could also make the place more beautiful and lively.
“We actually create the mural painting for fun and since Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has an art board site, I think it can be upgraded to allow for more painting, ” he said while he was a guest on the Darah Muda programme on Bernama TV on Wednesday night.
Abdul Hadi was one of the artists who painted the portraits of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah and three other government leaders, all of which were vandalised and later painted over by MBSA on Monday.
Bukit Aman Sexual, Women and Child Investigations Division assistant director Supt Siti Kamsiah Hassan said limited movements, coupled with financial pressure and drug abuse, were among the main factors behind the spike of abuse cases by their own children.
Siti Kamsiah said investigations found most cases involved children who were unemployed and aged between 30 and 38 years.
“Before this, the children involved were able to leave the house to earn money by working, borrowing or stealing.
“When desperate, these children ask for money from their parents, and if refused they get violent, ” she said.
