1,551 accidents reported on fifth day of Ops Selamat

PETALING JAYA: A total of 1,551 accidents were reported on Monday (April 24), the fifth day of Ops Selamat held in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

According to statistics released by the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, 2,327 vehicles were involved.

This was an increase from 1,381 accidents involving 2,072 vehicles recorded on Sunday (April 23).

Of the vehicles in Monday’s accidents, 1,790 were cars followed by 315 motorcycles, 103 four-wheel drives, 63 multi-purpose vehicles, 43 vans, eight lorries, three buses and two taxis.

Meanwhile, traffic was reported to be slow-moving along the East Coast Expressway from KM67.3 to KM49.1 (Bentong toward Bukit Tinggi) on Tuesday (April 25).

Along the northern section of the North-South Expressway (NSE), traffic was slow from Pendang to Gurun, Sungai Petani (north) to Sungai Petani (south), Bertam to Perai, Juru Autocity to Bandar Cassia, Jawi to Bandar Cassia, Bukit Merah to the Gunung Semanggol R&R, and Changkat Jering to Kuala Kangsar.

Along the central stretch of the NSE traffic was slow-moving from Gopeng to Tapah, and along the southern stretch of the same expressway from Pedas Linggi to Port Dickson, Ayer Keroh R&R to the Pedas Linggi layby, Bukit Gambir to Tangkak, and Simpang Renggam to Sedenak. – The Star
