PETALING JAYA: The court battle between actresses Zarina Anjoulie Mohamad Fahizul and Amyza Aznan continues as the case has been set to be heard on July 10.
Zarina, 34, had filed an application to the High Court against Amyza, 46, for defamation, on April 23.
However, until now, Amyza has yet to respond to the RM3mil suit and did not show up for the hearing on Thursday (June 25).
Judge Azimah Omar set the date for the case to be heard on July 10, in proceedings that were attended by Zarina’s lawyer Nurul Hafidzah Hassan.
He also ordered for a letter of notice to be sent to Amyza, the defendant, to inform her of the new date of the hearing.
Nurul Hafidzah said there has yet to be a response from Amyza, and that she has failed to make an appearance at court since the suit was filed on April 23.
“Amyza has not even responded to the letter that was served to her and we still have yet to receive any memorandum from her side.
“At the same time, the court will determine the claim amount after listening to our application following Order 13, Rule 2, ” she said.
She added that the suit was served to the defendant by hand and via post on April 24 and 28.
In her statement of claim, Zarina said that after the announcement by the government on the BPN (Bantuan Prihatin Nasional) for the B40 and M40 groups with household income of less RM8,000 and below, some local artistes voiced their opinions, saying that the government should also provide special assistance for artistes.
Zarina claimed that she posted a video on her Instagram page on March 28, which in general said that the “special assistance” was unnecessary and only eligible artistes should apply for the aid like the rest of the people.
She claimed that on March 29, a group known as ‘Bantuan Covid-Seni 2020″ was created on the Telegram app to discuss the Covid-19 assistance for local artistes, whereby at least 819 artistes and arts activists joined the group, including Amyza.
Zarina claimed that through the group, Amzya had used defamatory words against her, resulting in many members of the group being influenced by the alleged slander.
She also claimed that Amyza had also posted defamatory words against her on her Instagram in April.
She claimed the defamatory words implied that she was bad-tempered, irresponsible, a hypocrite and made use of other people to attack the defendant and slander against other artists.
Zarina claimed that the alleged defamatory words tarnished her reputation, causing her to be depressed and sad.
