Anwar cooperates with cops in alleged sex crime probe

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim spent about an hour and a half recording his statement as part of an investigation into an alleged sexual assault claim made by his former aide.

Bukit Aman CID D5 (Prosecution and Legal Division) principal assistant director Senior Asst Comm Mior Faridalatrash Wahid confirmed that the PKR president arrived at around 3.45pm yesterday.

Later, Anwar released a statement confirming that he had given his statement to the police.

“As mentioned before, I gave my full cooperation to the police with regards to the allegations by Muhammed Yusoff Rawther.

“I appreciate the police’s professionalism throughout the whole process, ” he said.

He also added he was accompanied by police and his lawyer Ramkarpal Singh back to his home to complete the probe.

Yusoff had earlier recorded his statement at Bukit Aman on Monday after he lodged a report on the alleged crime on Dec 7.

In his report, Yusoff wanted police to investigate alleged acts of sexual assault said to have been committed by Anwar.

He also submitted the statutory declaration which details the alleged crime said to have taken place at Anwar’s house last year. -The Star
