PETALING JAYA: Many Malaysians who “failed” to get an appointment for the AstraZeneca vaccine while trying to register for it on Wednesday (May 26) woke up to good news today (May 27) when their MySejahtera application was updated with an appointment for innoculation.
They were pleasantly surprised to the developments, although they did not get the date they chose for the vaccination during the second phase opt-in for the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine.
Marina Ee Yan Yan said that she did not get a thank you notification after trying to register for her vaccine on Wednesday.
But in the middle of the night, her application was updated with an appointment on a date she never chose.
“Try checking your app,” she said in a post in a Facebook group dedicated to the AstraZeneca vaccination.
She said that she had registered repeatedly in the system.
She said that while she got the venue she wanted, the date was much later than what she requested.
“What good news FIRST THING IN THE MORNING,” she said.
Others who commented on her post also said they experienced the same.
Another user Siew said he tried like “crazy” to no avail but then received an appointment for a date he did not chose.
Another Malaysian who wanted to be known as Ishar said he was shocked to get an appointment for the vaccination after having tried at least 20 dates in two different venues.
“I thought I had wasted my time but this is a pleasant surprise. I don’t know how many times if I was asked if I was a robot,” he said.
The Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) said the second phase opt-in for the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine was snapped up in an hour with a total of 956,609 slots taken up by Malaysians aged 18 and above.
CITF said this was in addition to the 275,208 slots that were booked by the elderly during the registration initiative from May 23 to 25, and 29,183 who were on the wait-list from a total of 1,261,000 slots.
“When the registration was opened this afternoon, a technical problem happened that resulted in users having problems accessing several features in the website.
“CITF takes this mechanical problem seriously and will take action on the relevant parties in the interest of the public and the country, ” it said in a statement on Wednesday.
CITF said it was aware that there were many Malaysians who were interested in obtaining the vaccine but had failed to do so.
However, it assured Malaysians that they would still be able to get their vaccines under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, especially when the vaccination process ramps up in the coming months.
The second round of opt-ins for the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine on Wednesday (May 26) afternoon was opened to those over 18 years old living in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang, Johor and Sarawak.
Meanwhile the Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee (JKJAVMY) said that appointments for the second round of the AstraZeneca vaccine have been pushed since last night.
“For those who have managed to book and haven’t received it yet, don’t worry. You will see your appointment soon,” it said on Facebook on Thursday (May 27).-The Star
