KOTA BARU: Business activities at the Kelantan-Thai border town have returned to normal following the reopening of borders in May.

Business operators at the Rantau Panjang duty-free zone said they were seeing more customers now.

Many travellers and commercial vehicles were seen entering and leaving the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) complex.

Local Othman Shaari, 42, said traders were grateful that Rantau Panjang has regained its popularity. It was labelled as a ghost town during the pandemic period.

“Outsiders are returning to the duty-free zone although the number of shops has reduced to 30 per cent compared to before.

“The ICQS complex is also busy with travellers,” said the father of four from Kampung Rantau Panjang Lama.

Trader Wan Safuan Wan Omar, 32, said he and other traders were elated as their businesses were recovering.–NST
