KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is hoping its logistical wish list will be met, including a commuter station near the federal police headquarters, additional parking complex and a multipurpose hall.
The Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said they had identified a location for the commuter station near the entrance to Bukit Aman’s Menara 2.
“I have discussed the matter with Transport Minister Anthony Loke recently.
“The station will benefit more than 3,000 Bukit Aman personnel. At the same time, it can also be used by personnel from other agencies, including the Health Ministry and the Statistics Department,” he told a press conference after the handing over ceremony for the Bukit Aman Logistics and Technology Department director’s post on Monday (Dec 23).
Hamid said while Loke had agreed in principle to a commuter station being built near Bukit Aman, it was subject to the government’s approval.
He added that the need for a new parking complex was also urgent as parking had always been a problem.
“We have those working in Bukit Aman who come as early as 6am just to get a nice parking space.
“A new parking complex will certain solve such problems,” he said.
Hamid also said Bukit Aman had never had a multipurpose hall or a marching square and often had to use parking spaces for such activities.
Compared to the Armed Forces which had various facilities, including its own military hospital, the police force felt it was being “anak-tirikan” (overlooked), he said.
“We have water cannon which has been in use for 21 years, and even 42-year-old armoured vehicles.
“Our marine boats can only reach up to a speed of 10 nautical miles,” Hamid said, adding that he would meet Loke again on the commuter station matter.
At the event, Commissioner of Police Datuk Seri Rosli Ab. Rahman took over from Comm Datuk Seri Tajudin Md Isa as Bukit Aman Logistics and Technology department director.
“He (Comm Tajudin) is the embodiment of integrity, sincerity. His service to the police force and the people is priceless. We salute you,” he said.
Abdul Hamid said he was confident Comm Rosli would be able to continue Comm Tajudin’s legacy in ensuring that the force’s logistical needs were sufficient. -The Star
