PETALING JAYA: The infectivity rate, or R-naught (Rt), for Covid-19 in Malaysia has remained under 1.0 for 12 days in a row, since the movement control order (MCO 3.0) was reinstated nationwide.
Since the total lockdown, the lowest infectivity rate recorded was 0.9 on June 12. Yesterday, it was 0.95.
Based on statistics shared by health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah on his Twitter account, Selangor recorded an infectivity rate of 0.92, despite being the state with the highest daily case numbers.
Other states with an Rt lower than the national average of 0.95 as of yesterday are Johor (0.92), Melaka (0.88), Kedah (0.84), Penang (0.81), Putrajaya (0.82), Pahang (0.8), Terengganu (0.79), Perak (0.76) and Kelantan (0.75). Perlis continues to record zero cases.
Only five states or territories recorded an Rt above 0.95 – Negeri Sembilan (1.09), Labuan (1.04), Sabah (1.03), Sarawak (1.0) and Kuala Lumpur (0.96).
The last time the national infectivity rate was lower than 1.0 was in April. It reached its peak on May 23, jumping to 1.21.
The health ministry reported 5,738 Covid-19 cases and 60 deaths yesterday.-FMT
