SEPANG: Two Covid-19 patients under quarantine at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) were arrested yesterday for stealing four mobile phones.

Sepang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said a health officer on duty noticed a commotion among the patients receiving treatment at Hall C, at 10.30pm.

He said the 34-year-old female health officer activated the orange code and requested for assistance from the police on duty to diffuse the situation.

“The patients were later interviewed and there were several mobile phones belonging to patients that had been stolen.

“Two men aged between 24 and 40 were suspected to have stolen the phones.

“The other patients decided to detain them which sparked the commotion,” he said in a statement today.

Wan Kamarul said the suspects had been transferred to Hall DG for security measures and the police had confiscated four stolen mobile phones found in their possession.

“Police have gathered the details from them and will make arrests after the suspects have recovered from Covid-19.

“The investigation is being conducted in accordance with Section 380 of the Penal Code,” he said.- NST
