KUALA LUMPUR: Several DAP leaders were seen at the meetings of Umno’s three wings on Thursday (June 8).
This is the first time any DAP leaders are attending the wings’ meetings, alongside representatives from Barisan Nasional component parties and Friends of Barisan,
DAP national publicity secretary Teo Nie Ching and Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin were present at the Wanita meeting.
Meanwhile, DAP Youth National deputy chief and Bentong MP Young Shefura Othman was a guest at the Puteri meeting.
However, no DAP representatives were seen at the Youth meeting.
Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh had earlier said that the movement would not be inviting parties in the government coalition to its meeting – a decision which was unanimously made by all exco members and state youth chiefs.
Last week, Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki announced that the party’s general assembly would also be inviting Pakatan Harapan chairman and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as a guest of honour.
Anwar is expected to show up at the party’s headquarters on Friday (June 8) during the opening of the general assembly.
This comes after the formation of the unity government last November that comprises Pakatan, Barisan – of which Umno is a component member – and several other component parties.
