Driving against flow: Four injured in three-vehicle crash

BUTTERWORTH: Four people, including a family of three, were rushed to the Seberang Jaya Hospital here last night with serious injuries following an accident involving three vehicles.

The 8.20pm incident at Km13 of the Butterworth Outer Ring Road (BORR), heading towards Bagan Ajam here, involved two cars and a motorcycle.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said investigations revealed the crash happened when a 43-year-old driver, from Bagan Ajam heading towards Sungai Dua, was believed to have driven his car against the flow of traffic before grazing an oncoming motorcycle and colliding with an oncoming car.

“It is not known why the driver had driven his car against the flow of traffic since he is still unconscious.

“The 24-year-old motorcyclist and 28-year-old pillion rider escaped unhurt.

“The driver and a family of three, including a couple and their three-year-old child, who sustained serious injuries due to the impact of the crash, were taken to the hospital for treatment,” he said late last night.

The case is probed under Section 43(1) if the Road Transport Department 1987.

Meanwhile, Noorzainy urged all road users to observe traffic rules to avoid any accident.

He also urged those who witnessed the crash to contact investigating officer Inspector Syafinaz at 018-2881424 or any of the nearest police stations.-NST
