PETALING JAYA: The Education Ministry is working towards releasing the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2020 examination results earlier than previous years, says Datuk Pkharuddin Ghazali.

The Examinations Syndicate director said a date has been set for the release of the results and that the ministry hopes it will be released as early as possible.

The SPM results are normally released in March.

“The examinations have been postponed (twice) already and students can’t wait. We will work hard to make sure the release of results will not be dragged (for months), ” he said during an interview with Bernama on Monday (Feb 15).

Pkharuddin was asked whether the release of the SPM 2020 examination results will be dragged due to factors such as whether candidates who are declared as Covid-19 positive or who are instructed to quarantine will sit for the examination at a rescheduled date.

A total of 401,105 candidates will sit for the SPM 2020 examination from Feb 22 to March 25.

He also said that the marking of the SPM 2020 examination papers will be done online.

He said the online marking of public examination papers began in 2019 with the Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia.

“Last year, we moved the marking of the SPM repeat papers online as well. We are currently working towards ensuring that the marking of the SPM 2020 papers will be done fully online. This is a way to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

“The only paper that will not be marked online is Visual Arts, ” he explained.- The Star
