Flash floods hit low-lying areas in Penang

Estimate Reading Time: < 1 minute

GEORGE TOWN: A heavy downpour on Wednesday (June 14) morning has inundated several low-lying areas here, including on Jalan P. Ramlee and Jalan Anson.

Trees, such as large bamboos, were also reported to have fallen in Balik Pulau.

As of 9.45am, the rain had subsided but traffic along main roads such as Penang Bridge, Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway and Jalan Masjid Negeri remained congested as many were heading for work.

Penang environment and welfare committee chairman Phee Boon Poh confirmed that there were flash floods in many areas, but that floodwaters have since receded.

Motorists have been advised to stay alert while driving on the wet roads.
