GOMBAK: Datuk Seri Amirudin Shaari says that he initiated legal action against Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Noor because he was protecting his reputation.
The caretaker Selangor Mentri Besar said he was not trying to stifle freedom of speech but was instead countering false allegations made by Muhammad Sanusi.
“He was spreading untruths,” said Amirudin in a press conference on Tuesday (Aug 8), according to Sinar Harian.
Amirudin also criticised accusations made by blogger Badrul Hisham Shaharin, who is also known as CheguBard.
“I don’t take CheguBard’s accusations seriously. He’s simply acting according to those who hired him,” he said.
Amirudin said that defamation is a serious matter.
“Attacks over the past week on these issues have been extensively explained by me for an hour in Parliament.
“These people want to gain political points by slandering others. Now we have sued them and they get upset,” said Amirudin.
Caretaker Kedah Mentri Besar Muhammad Sanusi had recently alleged that Amirudin was involved in a project with tycoon Tan Sri Vincent Tan to acquire 600 acres of land in Selangor.
Tan and Berjaya Land Berhad recently demanded an apology and filed a RM200mil suit against Muhammad Sanusi over remarks on the Selangor Maritime Gateway project.
