JOHOR BARU: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) midfielder Safiq Rahim has become the latest footballer to suffer an anonymous attack.

The 36-year-old footballer posted a photo of his smashed vehicle and police report on his Instagram account late Tuesday (May 7) night.

“I did not expect to be attacked near the JDT training centre.

“(Times like these), we have to be careful,” he wrote in the caption.

According to the police report, Safiq left the training centre and was heading from Jalan Sri Gelam to Lido Beach here when he was approached by a motorcycle with two suspects at around 10.05pm on Tuesday.

He claimed that the pillion rider took out a hammer and smashed his rear windshield.

Safiq said he stopped the car immediately after that, and the motorcycle moved to the front of his vehicle while the suspect pointed the weapon at him.

He then reversed his car, which prompted the suspects to flee the scene.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said police are trying to identify and arrest the suspects.

“Investigation is ongoing under Section 427 of the Penal Code for causing mischief.

“A more detailed police statement will be released after we have more information,” he added.

The latest incident comes days after national winger Faisal Halim, who is also known as Mickey, suffered an acid attack at a go-kart circuit in Klang Valley last Sunday (May 5).

On May 2, national winger and Terengganu player Akhyar Rashid was assaulted and robbed near his residence in Kuala Terengganu.
