JOHOR BARU: The state government has decided to postpone all its events in February that involve large crowds following the coronavirus outbreak.

Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal said the decision was made to minimise the risk of the disease from being spread.

He said among state events that would be postponed were the Malaysian Games Pre-launch (Semarak Juara Sukma) and the Pasir Gudang International Kite Festival.

“We have also advised other organisers to make the same move and postpone mass events, such as the Chingay, Thaipusam and Maulidur Rasul parades, if possible.

“If there is no way to postpone it, organisers should try to reduce the number of people attending or reduce activities that involve mass gathering,” said Dr Sahruddin to reporters during a press conference at the Mentri Besar’s office at Kota Iskandar here on Wednesday (Feb 5). -The Star
