PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested six bank employees suspected of accepting bribes from personal loan applicants, worth about RM18 million in total.

The men, aged between 36 and 45, were arrested at 4.45pm at the Selangor MACC headquarters today.

Bernama quoted a source who said that the bribes were rewards for approving applications of individuals who did not meet eligibility criteria for the personal loans.

“They were believed to have asked for, and accepted, bribes between 15% and 35% from a total of 110 personal loans worth about RM18 million,” the source said.

The source also said that the suspects were working at a few of the bank’s branches around the Klang Valley.

It is understood that the MACC also confiscated cash worth RM69,000, a few luxury watches and mobile phones from the suspects worth RM100,000.

Selangor MACC director Alias Salim confirmed the arrests.

He said all the suspects would be brought to the Shah Alam court tomorrow morning for remand proceedings.-FMT
