PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should take the initiative of lodging a police report on internal leaks within the agency, says Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan (pic).

The Tasek Glugor MP, in a video recording, said he had asked in Parliament on how the information on MACC investigations could have leaked, as it could lead to suspicions the agency was being used as a political tool.

“In answering my question, the government said a police report can be made on the leaks, which I welcome but this raises two pertinent questions.

“If we were to make a police report, it should be MACC, because the leaks were from the agency’s sources. Who were the sources?

“Are there MACC personnel who leaked the information?

“As such, MACC should lodge the police report to prove that it did not plan it and are serious about stopping the leaks” the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia supreme council member said.

Wan Saiful said if MACC did not want to make a police report, then the question arises that the leaks were deliberately planned or by sources appointed by MACC themselves.

He said if this continues, there is a possibility the people would have doubts on how far MACC could be trusted.

“Secondly, there was a report made earlier at the Dang Wangi police station on May 12 regarding the issue.

“However, the police said it was classified as ‘referred to another agency’ and it was referred to MACC.

“Why was a police report referred to MACC when the report was about them?

“What is the use of making a police report when it is referred back to MACC?” he asked.

Wan Saiful said he did not want to question MACC’s integrity.

“However, I urge the government and MACC to take this issue seriously so there are no accusations that the leaks were deliberately made and selectively planned for any particular reason,” he added.
