Malaysia to receive more Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine doses

Putrajaya, 8 March 2021 (The Capital Post)-Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba have penned a deal with Pfizer-BioNTech for vaccines which would cover 50% of Malaysian population.

In todays press meet on development of National Covid-19 Immunization program, Science, Innovation and Technology Minister Khairy Jamaluddin have revealed that from the previous 39% deal it have been finalized to 50%.

He also revealed that all the vaccines doses from Pfizer-BioNTech will be received in 2021.

More Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines doses will be received on 11 March 2020 and subsequently while 200,000 vaccines doses from Sinovac also expected to be received on 15 March 2021.

Khairy also said the vaccine deal with Johnson & Johnson is likely to be dropped due to the delay in the delivery of the vaccines.

He added that all 571,802 frontliners in the country would receive their first dose of the vaccine by the end of March.

Dr Adham Baba added that diversified vaccination portfolio will be the long term strategy to reach the herd immunity.- The Capital Post
