KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 — Malindo Air has contacted CyberSecurity to assist in its probe into the recent data breach involving the personal details of its passengers, said CyberSecurity Malaysia chairman Gen (Rtd) Tan Sri Mohd Azumi Mohamed.
”Malindo Air has engaged with CyberSecurity Malaysia to assist but let them do their investigation; we cannot prematurely conclude without analytical investigation, without forensically proving it,” he told Bernama when met at the CyberSecurity Malaysia Job Fair here today.
Last week Malindo Air made the breach public after Moscow-based cyber-security firm Kaspersky Lab said in a report that the details of around 30 million passengers of Malindo and another Lion Group subsidiary Thai Lion Air were posted in online forums.
Yesterday, the airlines in a statement said that the data exposure has since been contained.
Two former employees of its e-commerce services provider, GoQuo (M) Sdn Bhd, in their development centre in India had improperly accessed and stolen the personal data of customers. The matter has been reported to the police in Malaysia and India.
Asked what action could be taken by those affected by a data breach, Mohd Azumi said they can lodge a report to Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) or police.
“CyberSecurity Malaysia is just to provide technical expertise, to assist with the technical expertise that we have,” he said.
