MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm and heavy rain warning

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 2): The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning for several states to brace for thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds, which are expected to last until 1pm on Tuesday (Aug 2).

In a Facebook post, MetMalaysia said states to be affected by the adverse weather conditions are Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor.

MetMalaysia issued the warning at 9.55am.

The department noted that a warning is issued when there are signs of a thunderstorm, coupled with a rain intensity that exceeds 20mm per hour, which is expected to occur for near to or for more than an hour.

“A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single issuance,” it added.-The Edge Market
