KOTA BARU: A 15-year-old boy who went missing while swimming at Sungai Banggol near Jalan Pantai Cahaya Bulan yesterday, was found drowned this morning.
The body of Amirul Mukminim Mohd Izuna was found by a search party comprising of firemen and villagers.
Kota Baru Fire and Rescue Department station chief Zukeri Shafie said the party discovered the body about 7.50am not far the area where he was reported as missing yesterday.
He said the Form Three student from SM Ismail Petra went to the river with three friends about 5pm yesterday.
“According to his friends, they realised the victim was missing several minutes after they were swimming and immediately informed the authorities.
“Firemen were deployed to conduct the SAR operation soon after we received the report at 5.22pm but failed to locate the body.
“The SAR operation was postponed around 7.30pm and resumed this morning,” he said.
Zukeri said the body was later handed over to the police before being sent to Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital for a post-mortem.
He reminded the public not to go swimming either at the river or sea during the monsoon season.- NST
