Muhyiddin stays as PM and says he has the numbers

PUTRAJAYA, 4 August (The Capital Post)-Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced today that he would not resign as Prime Minister because he has the numbers and will prove it in parliament.

The announcement was made in a special televised address to the nation at 12.30pm, after he completed his weekly audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at Istana Negara this morning.

“During the audience, I presented to the Agong that I’ve received a number of statutory declarations from MPs, convincing me that the majority of Dewan Rakyat members still support me. Therefore, the issue of my resignation under Article 43(4) (of the federal constitution) is not raised”, he said.

He further stated that, his position as Prime Minister has been questioned many time and therefore he presented to the Agong that he will determine his majority as Prime Minister in Parliament.

Tan Sri Muhiyiddin Yassin also said attempts to bring down the government was the effort of certain individuals who wanted him to intervene and set them free from court charges.

Yesterday, UMNO Supreme Council agreed to withdraw support for Muhyiddin and the Perikatan Nasional government, leaving the legitimacy of the prime minister and his administration up in the air.- The Capital Post
