PETALING JAYA: Top Glove Corp Bhd has disputed the number of workers affected by the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) imposed on its workers’ dormitories today.

“Top Glove wishes to clarify that the 14 days of EMCO order from Nov 17 to 30 affects about 5,700 workers in Meru, Klang, and not 13,190 workers as reported.

“This represents about 27% of our total employees of 21,000,” it said in a statement.

It said its factories in Meru would continue to operate but with reduced capacity and with workers not under the EMCO, adding that the majority of its affected employees were asymptomatic.

Yesterday, Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that the company’s men’s dormitory at Jalan Abadi 1A/QU8 and women’s dormitory at Jalan Abadi 1A and Jalan Abadi 10A/KU8 would be under lockdown from today until Nov 30.

He had said the EMCO would involve 13,190 workers and nearly 1,200 of the area’s residents.

Top Glove’s facilities in Meru, Klang, have been linked to the Teratai cluster, which recorded 14 new cases yesterday, bringing the total number of infections in the cluster to 228. – FMT
