Over 11,000 people in COVID-19 clusters in Penang screened – Jagdeep

GEORGE TOWN, Nov 10 — A total of 11,245 people from seven COVID-19 clusters in Penang have been screened for the virus, state Housing, Local Government, and Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo today.

He said this figure was obtained from the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) open source data which was last updated on Nov 9.

According to the open source data, he said, most of the screenings were done in Seberang Perai Prison Cluster with 3,167 people tested, followed by the Penang Remand Prison Cluster (2,965), Bayan Cluster (2,345), Permatang Cluster (1,315), Alma Cluster (818), Intan Cluster (464) and Tembaga Cluster (171).

“Out of the 11,245 people tested, 1,292 were positive,” he said in a press conference after conducting spot checks in the Taman Tun Sardon market here.

He also said the Penang government would continue to ensure that the people comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs), especially in COVID-19 red zones and clusters in the state.

“We want to set an example for Malaysia on our good conduct and discipline by strictly following the SOPs, so that we can address and overcome the pandemic,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said the two city councils in Penang have conducted checks on over 1.06 million premises to ensure SOP compliance since the Movement Control Order was implemented on March 18.

“As of Nov 8, the Penang Island City Council has conducted checks on 420,104 premises and recorded an SOP compliance rate of 99.69 per cent.

“The Seberang Perai City Council conducted checks in 641,886 areas and recorded a 99.35 per cent SOP compliance rate,” he added. – BERNAMA
