PM yet to discuss GE15 plans with Umno’s top guns

Estimate Reading Time: 2 minutes

BERA: Although the date for the 15th General Election (GE15) is still unknown, it is indeed getting closer, said the Prime Minister.

Referring to a statement by deputy Umno president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who said he expects GE15 to be held before the end of the year, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said he has yet to discuss the matter, in particular the date, with Umno’s top five.

Umno’s “top five” are its president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Mohamad and its three vice-presidents, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid and Ismail Sabri.Ismail Sabri said only after discussing the matter with Umno’s top five would he discuss it with MCA and MIC, as well as other component parties in Barisan Nasional.

“… then it has to be tabled to the Cabinet because, under the Constitution, I must get the Cabinet’s approval before I go to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to get His Majesty’s consent for Parliament to be dissolved.

“That’s the procedure that needs to be observed,” he said in his speech at the presentation of the 2022 allocation for the Chinese and Indian communities in the Bera parliamentary constituency at the Bera Umno Complex in Padang Luas here yesterday.

However, Ismail Sabri told Barisan leaders in Bera to be ready with their election machinery and to meet with the voters to maintain the coalition’s victory in Bera, the Guai and Kemayan state seats, and to recapture the Triang state seat.

He added with GE15 getting closer, it is important for the party machinery to start preparing.

“Now, the Triang seat is given to MCA, and MCA has to prove that they can win the seat. It is a challenge for MCA and for all of us to recapture the seat, which everybody says will remain with DAP,” he said at the event where he presented contributions to 68 associations and clubs representing the Chinese and Indian communities in his constituency. — Bernama
