Ride delayed 15 mins? Grab will compensate users RM5

Estimate Reading Time: < 1 minute

Commuters can soon be compensated RM5 if their rideshare pickup is 15 minutes late, as Grab starts measures against driver delays.

The new Ride Cover feature is an opt-in insurance package that provides a 100% No Delay Guarantee and Personal Accident Insurance, at the cost of an additional 35sen a ride.

“Passengers who opt-in for Ride Cover will be compensated with an RM5 Grab ride voucher if their ride doesn’t arrive within 15 minutes of the estimated time of arrival,” said Grab in a press release.

The FAQ clarified that users will only receive the voucher if they continued with the ride, despite the delay.

Meanwhile, the Personal Accident Insurance is covered by Chubb Insurance and provides passengers up to RM100,000 on personal accident coverage, including up to RM2,000 for medical costs, on top of the basic insurance coverage of up to RM41,800 already provided to all users.

Family members of the users, including in-laws, are also covered. A full list is available in the FAQ.

To activate it, click on the Insurance tile on the homepage screen, tap view, agree to opt in, then confirm by pressing “got it”.

Once a passenger has opted in for Ride Cover, the 35sen fee will be added to every eligible future ride. Users may opt out from the same menu.

GrabShare, GrabRent and GrabBike are not eligible for RideCover. Those paying by cash or corporate billing are also not eligible.

Currently Ride Cover is in a pilot phase and only available to selected Grab ride users, based on how frequently they use the service. – The Star
