PETALING JAYA: The Sultan of Selangor has called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to continue investigations into alleged corruption by high-ranking state government officers.
In a statement, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s private secretary Mohamad Munir Bani said the Selangor Ruler was “saddened” to learn that some officials were involved in corrupt activities that can tarnish the reputation of the state administration.
“His Majesty stresses that action must be taken against anyone found to be involved in corruption and criminal breach of trust.
“State awards conferred upon government officials or politicians who have been found guilty of corruption will be withdrawn,” he warned.
Although the Sultan’s statement did not name the individuals, it may be linked to the arrest of two former local council presidents over bribery allegations.
It may also have to do with allegations in a viral video which accuses several current and former state officials over corruption in development projects and sand mining.
According to the video, the officials sought commissions from developers, running into billions of ringgit.
It is also alleged that an individual linked to the officials received approvals to mine sand from a 4,300 acre site.
In the statement, Munir said Sultan Sharafuddin wanted MACC to carry out a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure no one escapes justice.-FMT
