KUALA SELANGOR: Wanita PKR wants more than 30% of the party’s election candidates to be women.

“We will fight for more than 30%,” said Wanita PKR chief Fadhlina Sidek to reporters after the inauguration ceremony of the Siddiq Fadzil Memorial Library at the Universiti Selangor Bestari Jaya Campus on Thursday (July 6).

She added that the 30% quota was just the baseline.

She also said that the party has finished identifying candidates with the potential to contest in the state elections and would finalise the list at an upcoming special meeting.

Fadhlina, who is also the Education Minister, said that schools were ready to be used as polling stations.

She added that teachers who would be appointed as Election Commission (EC) officers are ready to carry out their responsibilities.

Nomination day for Negri Sembilan, Selangor, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu is on July 29 while polling is on Aug 12.

On a separate matter, Fadhlina said the ministry has not decided whether to reinstate the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Form Three Assessment (PT3) as discussions were ongoing.
