Tributes pour in for the late Subramaniam

KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah have expressed their condolences to the family of the late former MIC deputy president Tan Sri S. Subramaniam.

Their Majesties expressed sadness with Subramaniam’s passing and hoped his family would keep patient and be resolute.

“Their Majesties appreciate his services, deeds and sacrifices to society and the country, and regard his death as a huge loss to the MIC and the country,” said a post on the Istana Negara Facebook page yesterday.

Subramaniam, 78, died at his residence in Petaling Jaya on Tuesday after a long illness.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Subramaniam had contributed vastly to the country and the Malaysian Family.

“He also served the country as deputy minister in three ministries – Agriculture, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, and Housing and Local Government. My condolences to his family and I hope that they will remain strong over the loss of their loved one,” he said in a Facebook post.

Transport Minister and MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, in extending his condolences, said the passing of Subramaniam was a great loss to the people and country.

Subramaniam, who was the Damansara and Segamat MP between 1974 and 2004, joined the MIC in 1962 and held the positions of secretary-general, vice-president and deputy president.

He leaves behind his wife Puan Sri Tina Subramaniam, 70, two sons and a daughter.-The Star
