Umno assembly approves motion to cut ties with Bersatu

KUALA LUMPUR: The Umno general assembly which concluded today has approved the motion for the party to sever ties with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in the 15th General Election (GE15).

The party has also approved a motion for Umno to remain in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government until the Parliament is dissolved.

The motion from the party president’s policy speech that was approved unanimously at 6.50pm was proposed by Perak Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Saarani Mohamad and seconded by his counterpart from the Federal Territories – Datuk Seri Johari Ghani.

The matter was announced by Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan in a statement that was shared on his Twitter account.

“(The assembly) has agreed with the calls by the party grassroot and leaders for GE15 to be conducted immediately to form a government that is stable to ensure the prosperity of the country and the people’s wellbeing.

“(The assembly) will use the Barisan Nasional brand in GE15 and that the party will defend, strengthen and empower Muafakat Nasional based on its charter inked on Sept 14, 2019,” the statement said.-NST
