SHAH ALAM: Umno voters in the six states facing state elections are being urged to vote for DAP candidates to strengthen the unity government.

Former Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said when Umno members join the unity government, they must adhere to party discipline.

“The party’s discipline ensures that the party’s instructions are followed… While it is true that votes should remain a secret, my call is not to vote in the name of the party or DAP, but in the name of the unity government.

“The unity government was established following the order of the Yang diPertuan Agong during a hung parliament… Therefore, we must abide by and remain loyal to the Agong’s order,” he said when asked to comment on the extent to which Umno voters are willing to vote for DAP in the upcoming state elections.

He said this during a press conference after the inauguration of the XLPE Federal Power Sdn Bhd Cable Plant in Section 15 today.

Ahmad emphasised that Umno voters need to put aside their personal sentiments because Malaysia has broad political dynamic.

“What has happened is in the past. Now, we want stability.

“The candidates running in the state elections are not representing DAP or Pakatan Harapan, but rather the unity government,” he said.

He expressed his support for the early Unity Government National Convention in the six states that will be facing state elections, in order to ensure greater political stability in those states.

“The 19 parties present in the Dewan Merdeka at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, are a symbol of stability. We have never had a government with so many parties involved. They are all wearing white shirts, symbolizing the purity and cleanliness of our path forward.

“This stability is for the people because when we are politically stable, investors will come in, job opportunities will increase, and the country will develop. This will benefit the people. It is an example.

“If possible, we will have time to hold this convention for the six states. We will do it at the state level so that the grassroots can also experience unity, specifically in Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu,” he said.
