Unity govt to combine manifestos, says Rafizi

PETALING JAYA: Putrajaya will select and combine some of the pledges made by the different coalitions and parties that form the unity government, says economic affairs minister Rafizi Ramli.

Rafizi said the Cabinet has tasked chief secretary to the government Zuki Ali with setting up a committee for such a purpose.

“We are a coalition of parties with different backgrounds, different policies and each actually had our own manifesto going into GE15.

“But now that we’re in government (together), for us to quickly combine all the manifesto, there is a time constraint.

“At the Cabinet level, there is already a committee that is working to pick and choose, then combine all the specific programmes from each of the coalition manifestos,” he told reporters after the Dewan Rakyat session concluded today.

He pointed out that the negotiations for the selection of the programmes would be guided by the 18 commitments set out under Clause 2 of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) inked by the leaders of the unity government last Friday.

These include eradicating poverty regardless of race, providing fair economic opportunities to the poor regardless of background, as well as safeguarding freedoms to assemble, free speech, and enhancing the separation of powers between the three branches of government.

The Pandan MP was asked why the MoU did not outline specific reforms as compared to the MoU between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and the former Ismail Sabri Yaakob administration.

Separately, when asked if the new government would give equal funding for all MPs, Rafizi said it is a question for the finance ministry.-FMT
