Walk-in PPVs for teens to be announced tomorrow

Estimate Reading Time: 2 minutes

PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry will announce the list of existing vaccination centres (PPV) that will accommodate walk-ins for teenagers aged 12-17 tomorrow.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said teenagers going for vaccination must fill up a consent form and be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

“The parent or guardian must sign the consent form in front of the doctor at the vaccination centre.

“So teens can either wait for the (appointment) dates from schools that will serve as PPVs, or walk-in to these existing PPVs.

“We will announce the list of PPVs tomorrow,” he said at the launch of the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme (NIP) for teenagers at Sekolah Kebangsaan Putrajaya Presint 8(1), here, today.

Khairy also said the ministry had already approved all states to start their vaccination programme for teenagers, with a target of inoculating 3.2 million teenagers nationwide.

He said Sarawak had started vaccinating teenagers since Sept 8, followed by Labuan on Sept 11.

“Sabah too, has started vaccinating teenagers including through outreach programmes in rural areas and on islands.

“As of Sept 16, 85,076 teenagers have already been vaccinated with no serious side effects, Alhamdulillah (praise be to God).

“Where vaccine supply is enough, states can vaccinate those aged 12 to 17, otherwise, we recommend that the vaccination is given to those aged 16 and 17 first,” he added.

All teenagers would be administered with the Pfizer-Bio-NTech Cominarty vaccine.

Also present at today’s launch were Senior Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin, Deputy Health Minister I Datuk Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali, and Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Khairy said the NIP for teenagers was important to ensure a smooth school reopening in October.

“This is my commitment to the Education Ministry. We want to open up schools in a safe and orderly manner, so students can come back to school safely,” he added. -NST
