PETALING JAYA: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should just retire from politics after repeatedly claiming to have the numbers to lead the government, says Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan (pic).
He said that this is not the first time that Anwar has claimed to have the numbers that would enable him to be the prime minister.
“If this is the kind of desperate strategy that he wants to use, then I suggest that he just retire from politics and let other leaders take over the role of Opposition leader, so that it can be a constructive opposition,” he said.
In a statement on Tuesday (Oct 13), Wan Saiful also said that Anwar has deceived the people yet again by making fresh claims of having enough support to lead the government.
“This is merely a personal ambition of his without thinking of the consequences an unstable political landscape might bring to the economy and the people,” he said.
He added Bersatu fully supports Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin leading the government.
Earlier, Anwar claimed he had the support of more than 120 MPs in his bid to become prime minister.
The Port Dickson MP also had an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at Istana Negara on Tuesday.
In another statement, Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negara Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said Anwar gave the King the numbers he claimed to have but did not give out the names of the MPs to verify his claim.
The King has also advised Anwar to follow and respect the legal process as stated in the Federal Constitution. -The Star
