Kuala Lumpur, 26 Jan 2021 (The Capital Post)- Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak raises few questions about the possibilities of not resuming Movement Control Order (MCO) 2.0 after 4th Feb which reportedly stated by Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a virtual media session yesterday.
In the media session, Dr Noor Hisham said the government was concerned that a prolonged MCO would be too detrimental to the country’s economy.
After the four-week MCO period, the government will then possibly reinstate the conditional MCO (CMCO).
In a recent Facebook post, the Pekan MP has raised few questions related to the possible reinstatement of CMCO.
“If we stop MCO and re-implement CMCO which has proven to have failed before, will we face PKP 3.0 again in the future?” asked Najib Razak.
He showed his dissatisfaction on repeating of the same strategies that have failed to curb the Covid-19 local transmission since since the government is targeting only 70% of the Malaysian population will receive the vaccine by the end of 2021.
He also questioned the CMCO which has been proven to fail will be able to reduce the number of new cases to more than 3,000 cases a day now to double digits as planned by the government.
The former PM added a suggestive question, “Would it be much better for us to create a strict MCO without flexibility to the construction sectors and factories for a period of 2 to 4 weeks with government assistance like the first MCO last year to give the maximum impact on the local Covid-19 transmission so that the people do not have to face the CMCO and the risk of future MCO 3.0 ?”.
He ended the post with “Wouldn’t it be better to sacrifice for a short period rather than prolonged harm?”.
According to Health DG Dr Noor Hisham the current R0 (infectivity rate, pronounced R-naught) had gone down to 1.06 from 1.2, indicating that the number of Covid-19 cases might be on the decline and with combination of the MCO and the CMCO, number of cases can be reduced to two digits by May.
