Flash floods in Johor, 941 people relocated to relief centres

JOHOR BARU: Some 941 flood victims from five districts in Johor have been placed at 18 temporary relief centres after continuous heavy rain caused flash floods in the state.

State health and environment committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said that the highest number of victims were from Pontian with 399 people, followed by Muar (272), Batu Pahat (217), Kluang (31), and Tangkak (22).

“The 941 victims are from 227 families living in the five affected districts namely Pontian, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang and Tangkak.

“The most affected place is at SK Kampung Sawah with 148 people and SK Seri Bunian with 106 people from Pontian, ” he said in a statement here Monday (June 22).

Currently, there were five centres in Muar, two in Tangkak, four in Batu Pahat, five in Pontian and two in Kluang.
