According to an internal communication reviewed by Reuters, the union expressed concern that Hyundai’s plan to begin deploying humanoid robots from 2028 could result in what it described as “employment shocks.”

While news of the automation strategy helped push Hyundai Motor’s share price to a record high, the development was met with resistance from workers, the letter said.

The union stressed that no robots using new technologies would be permitted in the workplace unless a formal agreement is reached between management and labour representatives.

Hyundai Motor has yet to issue a response to the union’s remarks.
