Luxury car driver detained for driving without a licence in Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR: A 28-year-old content creator was detained for driving a Lamborghini Aventador without a valid driving licence during a joint operation on Jalan Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, on Tuesday (April 8).

Hamidi Adam, Director of the Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur Road Transport Department (JPJ), stated that the luxury car driven by the Chinese national was among 27 vehicles seized during the operation.

“In the operation, we inspected 1,627 vehicles, with enforcement actions taken against 211,” he said during a press conference on Tuesday.

According to Sinar Harian, the operation involved 115 personnel from various agencies, including JPJ, the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, the Immigration Department, and the National Anti-Drug Agency.

“We issued 463 notices for various offences such as driving without a licence, lack of vocational licence, no road tax, no insurance, and vehicle modifications,” Hamidi added.

The Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department inspected 60 vehicles and issued 30 summonses, while the Immigration Department checked 29 foreigners, detaining one man and two Indonesian women.

The National Anti-Drug Agency conducted urine tests on 37 individuals, detaining two men and one woman for testing positive for cannabis.

In a separate development, Hamidi reported that during the 14-day Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2025 Special Operation (Ops HRA) from March 24 to April 4, 4,559 notices were issued for various road offences.

“We inspected 15,490 vehicles at key locations, including Southern Integrated Transport Terminal and Gombak Integrated Terminal, motorways and main roads.

“Actions were taken against 1,729 vehicles, and 24 were seized under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333),” he said.

The operation aimed to enhance road safety, especially during the festive season, through enforcement and advocacy strategies to reduce road accident rates.
