KUALA LUMPUR, 16 Julai -- Penganggur, Muhammad Najwan Zulkefli, yang tular di media sosial kerana meletakkan tiga ekor kucing di dalam mesin basuh di sebuah kedai dobi sehingga menyebabkan haiwan itu mati didakwa di Mahkamah Sesyen Selayang hari ini. Muhammad Najwan, 24, bagaimanapun mengaku tidak bersalah selepas pertuduhan terhadapnya dibacakan di hadapan Hakim Syafeera Mohd Said. KUALA LUMPUR: A jobless man pleaded not guilty at the Selayang Sessions Court to a charge of killing three cats at a self-service laundrette in Kepong.

Muhammad Najwan Zulkefli, 24, was charged with committing the offence at the Atlantis laundry premises at the Desa Satu Apartment in Kepong between 5am and 6.30am on July 12.
He was charged under Section 29(1)(e) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015, which carries a fine of not less than RM20,000 or not more than RM100,000, prison term of up to three years, or both upon conviction.
Earlier, prosecuting officer N. Naageswara Rao from the Selangor Veterinary Services Department requested the court to send the accused to Hospital Bahagia in Ulu Kinta, Perak for further observation as he was believed to be mentally unsound.
Sessions Court judge Syafeera Mohd Said then ordered Muhammad Najwan, who was unrepresented, to be sent to the hospital for a month for observation, and set mention for Aug 13.

Present in court was Malaysia Animal Association president Arie Dwi Andika.
A clip of a man putting the cats into a washing machine in the Kepong laundrette had gone viral on social media.
The clip, taken from a CCTV in the laundrette, raised the ire of Malaysians who demanded that action be taken against the perpetrator of the cruel act.
