BATU PAHAT: A newborn baby boy was found dead in a rubbish bin at the women’s toilet of the Yong Peng rest stop along the North-South Expressway yesterday.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the discovery was made at 3pm.
“Yong Peng health clinic medical officers rushed to the scene. They confirmed that the fully formed baby, with the umbilical cord and placenta still attached, was wrapped in a shirt before being placed in the rubbish bin,” he said today.
The body was sent to Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital here for a post-mortem.

Shahrulanuar said the case was being investigated under Section 316 of the Penal Code for causing the death of a child below 12 years old.
He urged people with information on the case to go to the nearest police station or contact Johor police hotline at 07-2212 999 or Batu Pahat police at 07-434 3999.
Shahrulanuar appealed for leads that could identify the parents or individuals involved.
