Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said police are currently in the process of comparing the DNA with all individuals linked to the 2013 case.

“The investigation papers submitted by the police were returned to us last week and have been thoroughly examined.

“Upon review, we noted that DNA from several unknown men was found on a key exhibit.

“The police are now in the process of comparing this DNA with all individuals associated with the 2013 case,” he said.

Mohd Dusuki added that instructions have been issued to obtain all chemical reports for the 42 blood samples collected in the case for comparison purposes.

“Accordingly, the investigation papers will be returned to enable the collection of these reports,” he said.

In December 2013, Wan Ahmad Faris, a Form Four student, was found hanging in the toilet of the Maahad Tahfiz Sains Nurul Aman dormitory in Kok Lanas.

His body was reportedly discovered by a dormitory supervisor after noticing a foul smell coming from the toilet.

A forensic pathologist conducting the autopsy initially classified the case as a sudden death with no criminal elements involved.

However, in June 2016, the Coroner’s Court ruled that Wan Ahmad Faris’ death was caused by the actions of an unidentified individual.

In August last year, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, confirmed that the investigation into the tahfiz student’s death had been reopened.

Meanwhile, Ruhani Hussin, 71, was overcome with emotion over the latest development in her son’s case.

“Allahuakbar. Alhamdulillah. My 12-year struggle to uncover the truth behind my son’s tragic death has finally borne fruit as the police investigation now shows results.”

She said her daily prayers as a mother, asking for justice for her son and for the suspects to be brought to trial, have never wavered in the past 12 years.

“I am speechless… I was lost for words when informed that the police have found DNA from several men. I sincerely hope those responsible for harming my son are caught and brought to justice.

“For 12 years, I have waited and will continue to wait until those who harmed my son are held accountable. Finally, at least some progress has been made.”

Ruhani also said she hopes a thorough investigation is conducted and that individuals linked to the DNA are apprehended.

“Many have said my fight has been in vain because the case has been ongoing for so long, but I do not regret it, even if it meant attending numerous court sessions.

“Even if the suspects are not caught, I am satisfied as a mother knowing I have done my best,” she added.
