PETALING JAYA: The Saudi Arabian government has increased Malaysia’s haj quota by 10,000, Bernama quoted Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin as saying in Riyadh.

Muhyiddin, who is on an official four-day visit to the country, was granted an audience with Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed Salman Abdulaziz Al-Saud yesterday.
He was accompanied by foreign minister Hishammuddin Hussein.
It was reported yesterday that Malaysia had made a request to Saudi Arabia for the official haj quota to be raised from the present 31,600.

Muhyiddin said the request was made as the country’s population had increased to 31.95 million.
He said the increase in the annual haj quota would allow more Malaysians to go on the haj pilgrimage.
The prime minister was also reported to have requested approval for Malaysian umrah pilgrims to perform the umrah at the soonest possible opportunity in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.-FMT
