Kuala Lumpur 28 April 2026 (The Capital Post) – Muar is set to receive its first cinema as FST Cinemas moves forward with plans to develop a new standalone movie complex, aimed at expanding entertainment access in underserved suburban areas.

The proposed cinema will be located within The Hub Business Park in Muar and is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2027. The project is being undertaken in collaboration with YKL Capital Sdn Bhd as part of a broader development initiative.

FST Cinemas said the new facility will feature seven screening halls with a seating capacity of between 800 and 900, offering improved viewing experiences through enhanced sound systems, projection quality and overall ambience.

The expansion reflects the company’s strategy to tap into markets that currently lack sufficient cinema infrastructure. Muar, which presently does not have an operational cinema, has been identified as a key opportunity to bring movie-going experiences closer to local communities.

Unlike traditional cinemas located within shopping malls, the Muar project will be a standalone venue designed to create a distinct and community-focused entertainment environment. The initiative is also part of FST’s wider plan to grow its network from 16 to at least 21 locations by 2027.

Industry observers noted that the development aligns with efforts to revitalise Malaysia’s cinema landscape, particularly in smaller towns where demand for accessible entertainment options continues to grow.

The project is expected to enhance local lifestyle offerings and contribute to the town’s economic activity, while providing residents with a long-awaited cinematic experience closer to home.-The Capital Post
