Malaysia, Fiji Strengthen Defence Ties Through Strategic Cooperation Talks

KUALA LUMPUR, 13 May 2026 (The Capital Post) — Malaysia and Fiji are strengthening bilateral defence relations through strategic cooperation discussions aimed at enhancing regional and global security collaboration.

According to information shared on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Pertahanan Malaysia, Ministry of Defence secretary-general Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali received a courtesy visit from Fiji High Commissioner to Malaysia, Her Excellency Queen Etueni Qiolele Caucau, at Wisma Pertahanan.

The meeting reflected the commitment of both countries to further strengthen defence relations in response to the increasingly dynamic geopolitical and security environment.

During the discussion, both parties expressed their intention to enhance defence cooperation in a more structured and comprehensive manner through efforts to formalise a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the defence sector.

The discussions also focused on expanding cooperation in military exercises, capacity building, exchange of expertise and participation in international security missions.

Malaysia and Fiji also acknowledged the potential for greater collaboration in the defence industry to support local industry development, strengthen technology transfer and create wider economic and capacity-building opportunities for both countries.

The meeting highlighted the shared commitment of Malaysia and Fiji to continue building progressive, sustainable and future-oriented bilateral relations in the defence sector. – The Capital Post
