KUALA LUMPUR, 19 May 2026 (The Capital Post) — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the celebration of Malaysia’s athletes at the National Sports Awards 2025 goes beyond recognising victories and achievements, but also honours the sacrifices, discipline and fighting spirit demonstrated by athletes who have brought pride to the nation on the world stage.
According to him, every medal and sporting success achieved by national athletes represents years of hard work, sacrifice and perseverance that deserve recognition and respect from all Malaysians.
He said athletes not only carry the nation’s hopes in sporting competitions, but also serve as symbols of unity, determination and resilience.
Anwar added that in a world often divided by differences and disputes, sports continue to unite Malaysians under one shared spirit and aspiration whenever the country competes internationally.
He stressed that sports should never be separated from society, as the participation and support of people from all walks of life contribute towards building national strength and sporting excellence.

Despite current economic challenges, the Prime Minister said the MADANI Government remains committed to ensuring that sports development and the welfare of athletes continue to be safeguarded and strengthened.
He also congratulated all award recipients and athletes who continue striving tirelessly in pursuit of excellence while encouraging them to continue improving their performance for the success of Malaysia.
