BINTULU, June 2, 2026 (The Capital Post) – According to a post shared on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Pelancongan, Seni dan Budaya Malaysia (MOTAC), Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Dato Sri Tiong King Sing conducted a Hari Gawai Ngabang visit to several longhouses in Bintulu, Sarawak, in conjunction with the Hari Gawai 2026 celebrations.
The minister visited RH Jalan anak Seman, RH Saging anak Layang, RH Eyus anak Etek and RH Tiut anak Usit, where he joined local communities in celebrating the festive occasion while strengthening ties and appreciating the rich cultural heritage of the Dayak community.
The visits provided an opportunity to foster closer relationships, share festive joy and experience the unique traditions and customs that have been preserved across generations.
Also present during the celebrations was His Excellency Ouyang Yujing, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Malaysia, who had the opportunity to experience Sarawak’s unique Gawai culture firsthand.
Tiong described the ambassador’s participation as an important platform to strengthen friendship, enhance cultural understanding and further reinforce bilateral relations between Malaysia and China.

The minister also emphasised the importance of preserving unity, harmony and mutual respect among Sarawak’s diverse communities, noting that Hari Gawai remains an important cultural heritage celebration that contributes to the growth of Malaysia’s cultural and tourism sectors.
He added that such celebrations support the objectives of the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign and align with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI in promoting cultural appreciation and national unity.
Hari Gawai, celebrated annually by the Dayak community, continues to serve as a symbol of cultural pride and social cohesion while showcasing Sarawak’s rich traditions to both local and international visitors. – The Capital Post
