KUALA LUMPUR, 25 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – Istana Budaya has officially reopened KOMO Kopitiam, a refreshed dining space designed to celebrate Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage and local culinary traditions while enhancing the overall visitor experience at the national theatre.

The reopening was officiated by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), Dato’ Shaharuddin Abu Sohot, during a ceremony held at Istana Budaya on 24 June.

Congratulating Istana Budaya and all parties involved in the initiative, Shaharuddin described the reopening as a positive step towards strengthening the country’s arts, culture and tourism ecosystem. He noted that KOMO Kopitiam embraces the distinctive concept of a Malaysian kopitiam, showcasing local flavours and heritage in a welcoming setting for visitors.

The refurbishment and upgrading works for the café were carried out under MOTAC’s Restoration, Conservation, Renovation and Upgrading Programme, aimed at improving facilities and public amenities at key cultural institutions.

The initiative also supports the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI and the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign by promoting cultural engagement and encouraging greater appreciation of the nation’s artistic and heritage offerings.

MOTAC expressed hope that KOMO Kopitiam will serve as a community gathering space while further strengthening Istana Budaya’s position as a leading cultural destination in the country. – The Capital Post
