NRES strengthens geosite and geopark governance through 2026 course

PUTRAJAYA, 21 August 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) is strengthening knowledge and governance practices in the management of geosites and geoparks through the 2026 Course on Geosite and Geopark Management and Governance.

The first day of the course on 20 August featured a knowledge-sharing session titled “Introduction to Geoparks in Malaysia”, delivered by Najibah Binti Ismail from the Minerals and Geoscience Division, NRES.

The session provided participants with an overview of the concept and development of geoparks in Malaysia, as well as the importance of conserving geological heritage, biodiversity and cultural heritage in supporting sustainable geopark development.

The course also aims to enhance participants’ understanding and strengthen efforts to manage and govern geosites and geoparks more effectively, contributing to the long-term sustainability of the country’s natural heritage.

According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Sumber Asli dan Kelestarian Alam (NRES), the programme forms part of efforts to strengthen knowledge and governance in the management of Malaysia’s geosites and geoparks. – The Capital Post
