PUTRAJAYA, 31 August 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Minister of Transport chaired a high-level meeting with the Attorney General’s Chambers to discuss the direction and latest developments in Malaysia’s maritime law reform under the Malaysia Maritime Law Review and Reform Committee (MLRRC).
The meeting marked an important step in ensuring the maritime law reform agenda is implemented in a structured and comprehensive manner. The MLRRC study has now entered the legislative drafting phase, including the preparation of Bills following stages of study, analysis and policy direction-setting.
Discussions focused on coordination between the Ministry of Transport, the Attorney General’s Chambers and the MLRRC in translating the identified policy direction into a practical legislative framework that is aligned with the current needs of the maritime industry and Malaysia’s international obligations.
The meeting also established several key policy decisions to facilitate the tabling of the relevant Bills in 2027.

Also present were YBhg. Dato’ Seri Umar Saifuddin bin Jaafar, Solicitor General II, who led the delegation from the Attorney General’s Chambers; YBhg. Dato’ Seri Jana Santhiran Muniayan, Secretary General of the Ministry of Transport Malaysia; YBhg. Tan Sri Datuk Nallini Pathmanathan, Chairman of the MLRRC; and YA Dato’ Ong Chee Kwan, Deputy Chairman of the MLRRC.
